Is it hard to be a Starbucks Barista?

I am thinking about applying for a job at Starbucks. It may sound dumb but is it hard to be a barista? I mean to know al those recipes and use the machinery? Lol I make it sound like such hard work. Well anyway I would also like the opinion of current or past Starbucks employees. Thank you!

No can’t be all that hard, but you have to be pleasant with customers, quick on your feet but safe with all that hot coffee. You may have to organize different tasks in your head all at one time.

I don’t particularly like Starbucks coffee, it smells and tastes burnt. But they do have different varieties so you want to learn them, the different recipes for drinks, the flavorings, and the baked goods, so that you can handle a customer who has a question or wants a recommendation.

Also just basic work ethic, particularly with regard to in food service. You want to look neat, keep your hands clean, your nails tidy, and you should be tidying up and restocking supplies if there is nothing else going on. Don’t stand around eating and drinking in front of customers. There are probably designated times and places for it. You want to be prompt for your shift, and willing to help out every once in a while if you are asked to come in early or stay late. And be flexible about your tasks, and willing to learn anything your supervisor wants to teach you.
